Saying that lip is “a bit scraped up” is like saying your girlfriend is “a bit pregnant”. Also, I would ask for confirmation of the date it was imported/received in the US, because even though the car is a 1990 and it’s currently 2016, if the car was in-country before it was 25 years old it is still illegal and they can seize your shit. Being registered in Connecticut doesn’t mean a damn thing.

I wonder how lucrative it would be to start hoarding R33 & R34 Skylines in preparation for when the Yanks can get them.

That’s not true. Once the car is 25 years old it’s safe from the the crusher. No matter when it was brought it. It’s part of the reason the motorex R34s are legal

It might actually be a decent money maker. Hell if you bought an r34 a few years ago and sold it here youd be in profit. When I was dreaming about cars in my mid teens you could get an r34 gtr for 20k theyre 30k now.

I hope the Feds give an amnesty in these cases.

Or maybe the reason they’re zealous of crushing these beauties is because they want the prices to skyrocket?

Both are imported from Japan and therefore from the same market. Yes there may be differences in import/registration cost but the rest is just price hiking by sellers.

Kinja'd!!!1

Nope. There were a bunch of cars that were crushed because they had been imported before they were 25 years old. Even though at the time of seizure they would have been legal to import.

No the difference is from the get go skylines were legal in the uk. They weren’t in America. So the market saturation is higher in the UK meaning prices are cheaper. Since they just became legal here in the states the ones that are already here are going to be more expensive. And not everyone wants to deal with importing one themselves.

Thats exactly my point, the supply price is roughly the same, the only difference is that people selling them can sell really high because of the demand. Prices will probably crash once a good few have made it over there.

The only reason Motorex R34 cars are legal is because Motorex mislead the US Government, stating the R34 and R32 were similar enough to the R33 that they did not have to perform additional crash testing and emissions testing, and they mislead consumers stating the cars had been federalized in compliance with their proprietary process. That is why owners of the misrepresented Motorex R34s have a Motorex letter issued for their cars .

Also, vehicles imported after the Motorex fiasco are not legal unless they are over 25 years old, so any R32 or R34 imported after March 1, 2006 but before 25 years after the production date is an illegally imported car, regardless of the vehicle age now. None of the illegally imported cars are or have been grandfathered in.

I knew the motorex cars were grandfathered in because the government got duped I just thought that as long as you kept it from the feds till after it was 25 it’d be safe

Lots of skylines kicking around western Canada. Lots of them have been here for years. Lots of seriously messed up skylines in back yards in the hood.

This one showed up pretty close to me. Sort of tempting, but I think I’d rather do other car things with that money.

I’m sure you wouldn’t get as much scrutiny, but they’ve got such hard-ons for these things if they caught a whiff of it they’d crush it.
